Architectural Identity Development in Punta Mita

A residence can be more than architecture.

It can become an identity.

The development of an architect-designed residence represents a unique opportunity to create something beyond the built environment: a narrative that extends into how the space is experienced, remembered, and lived.

Casa Thalassa, located in Punta Mita, was conceived through this perspective. Rather than approaching the project solely from an architectural standpoint, the process focused on building a complete identity system, one that connects concept, context, and visual language into a cohesive experience.

BUILDING A LIVABLE IDENTITY

At Idée, branding and signage are not separate from architecture, they are part of the same system. This close relationship allows us to design experiences that are intuitive, cohesive, and deeply connected to their environment.

For Casa Thalassa, this meant developing an identity that could exist across multiple scales: from the conceptual foundation of the name to the physical elements integrated within the space.

NAMING AS A STARTING POINT

The process began with the creation of the name Casa Thalassa, inspired by the Mediterranean origin of the word “Thalassa,” meaning sea.

The name establishes a direct connection to the coastal context of Punta Mita while introducing a narrative rooted in mythology and timelessness. It becomes the first layer of identity; defining tone, atmosphere, and perception.

TRANSLATING IDENTITY INTO A VISUAL SYSTEM

From this conceptual foundation, a visual identity was developed to align with the architecture and its surrounding landscape.

A timeless logotype

A restrained and elegant typographic system

A graphic language inspired by natural patterns and movement

Rather than competing with the architecture, the identity was designed to complement and enhance it.

IDENTITY EMBEDDED IN SPACE

The identity was then translated into physical elements that interact directly with the built environment.

Custom residential identifiers

Integrated signage elements

Architectural numbers designed specifically for the residence

Each piece was conceived not as an addition, but as an extension of the architectural language.

EXTENDING IDENTITY INTO EVERYDAY LIFE

One of the key opportunities within residential projects lies in extending identity beyond spatial elements into daily interactions.

In Casa Thalassa, this translated into a series of lifestyle applications:

Staff uniforms

Towels and textiles

Stationery and curated amenities

These elements allow the identity to be experienced in subtle yet consistent ways, reinforcing a sense of place through everyday touchpoints.

BEYOND ARCHITECTURE

When identity is considered from the early stages of a project, the result is a stronger, memorable experience.

Casa Thalassa becomes more than a residence.

It becomes a system where architecture, brand, and experience merge into a single narrative.

ARCHITECTURAL IDENTITY DEVELOPMENT

Our approach integrates branding, signage, and spatial experience to create distinctive identities for residential and hospitality projects.
